Taking a trip no matter how far from home may cause you to want to bring pieces of your home along for the vacation. Try not to take along so many things.

If you are driving to a port city before leaving on a cruise, always find a hotel that offers free parking and arrive the night before. Ask the staff at the hotel if they offer any parking discounts even if they don't have any published.

Check your hotel alarm clock. It is not surprising to have an alarm clock go off in the dead of the night, sometimes set by a previous traveler or even set as a prank. If you make sure to turn it off or reset it, you will help get your vacation started off on the right foot.

Candles are a nice touch to help a cheap hotel room look nicer. Candles will make the room smell good.

Bring along a door stopper to the hotel. When you are on the road in countries with little or no development, you want some more security with you in the room while sleeping. If you do not have a door that is equipped with a chain or deadbolt, use a wedge doorstop before retiring at night.

It's easy to get frustrated if issues arise with travel plans. Your flight may get delayed or the car you wanted to rent becomes unavailable.
